Membership Committee

Membership Liaison Volunteer

Attend AMA events and help to promote the AMA to non-members.  As a brand champion you can provide your personal testimony of how the AMA has helped you professionally.  You will be provided with training on AMA membership benefits to help you be prepared to field common membership questions.  A sign up list is available so you only have to attend events that fit into your schedule. This low commitment position only requires a positive and enthusiastic attitude!

Annual Conference Volunteers

Day-of-Conference Volunteers - 30 Positions

The Annual Conference committee is looking for individuals to assist on the day of the MN AMA Annual conference to be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Marriott Southwest in Minnetonka.  As a day-of conference volunteer, you will be eligible to register for the conference at a significant discount.  Day-of-conference volunteers pay just $150 (a 33% discount off of the member rate!) for the conference in exchange for a 2 hour volunteer time commitment.

Collegiate Relations

Collegiate Chapter Liaison
The Collegiate Relations Chapter is looking for individuals who want to give back to their community through assisting a Student Chapter of the AMA. Currently we have five student chapters at public and private universities and colleges across the state of Minnesota. Each is paired with a volunteer from our professional chapter to provide insight, assistance, and a tether to the professional chapter and its members. Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Be the primary contact for your assigned student chapter regarding all professional chapter events, programs, and resources
  • Communicate the following information to the Collegiate Relations Committee on your assigned student chapter:
    • Contact info for the current academic advisor/leader
    • Contact info and titles for all current board members
    • Total membership number
      • If the student chapter gives us their mailing list it will only be used for email purposes regarding monthly programs and the Annual Conference
    • Attend at least half of your student chapter board meetings.
    • Assist the student chapter by providing ideas for programs, events, speakers, sponsors, etc. as needed.
    • Be a bridge between the professional chapter and the collegiate chapter leadership and membership.

Chapter Excellence Award

Copywriter
A copywriter is responsible to come up with the words and verbal content that are used alongside the visual elements. Most copywriters work closely with the advertising team, and may even provide input about the visual elements. A copywriter, along with the creative team, takes a client's advertising brief and produces original copy ideas with the objective of capturing the target audience’s attention. It is important for a copywriter to ensure that the materials presented are factually correct and in keeping with the codes of advertising practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gaining a deep understanding of the product/event, target audience and competitor activities in the market.
  • Exploring different ideas and concepts for both the visual and verbal elements in union with the creative team.
  • Liaising with clients and interpreting client creative briefs.
  • Preparing drafts of different initial options for review — they may either be rejected or developed into workable concepts.
  • Writing clear, persuasive, original copy.
  • Proofreading copy to check spelling and grammar.
  • Amending, revising or redeveloping campaigns or digital copy in response to team and client feedback.
  • May play a role in coordinating the production phase, booking and liaising with designers, illustrators, printers, photographers and production companies.
  • Keeping up to date with popular culture and trends

Skills/Qualifications Needed:

  • Develop original ideas.
  • Communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Decipher requirements from creative briefs or background information.
  • Recognize the application to other channels to maintain continuity of brand.
  • 3+ years of ad and creative writing experience

Time Commitment: 5-10 hours/month

Marketing Communications Committee

Art Director—AMA Image Library Project
This volunteer position requires art direction/design and photo direction experience in order to establish a vision and 'look and feel' for a new library of images to be created for use by MN AMA in its own marketing efforts. You will be generating scene sketches/descriptions with model and prop requirements that fit with the current topics found on the AMA website and printed pieces. During the photography process, you'll be directing the scene to match the overall vision established in the initial creative phase. The project will likely be completed over a 4 month period, requiring 10–15 hours per month. This is a great opportunity for creative collaboration and the ability to make a visual impact on behalf of our local chapter. Writer
Develop original ideas to communicate information according to direction provided in creative brief or required elements provided by team members. Applicant should have experience in writing copy across multiple platforms with the understanding of the importance to maintain brand integrity. This position requires approximately 5–10 hours per month.

Staff Blogger
The MN AMA Blog Contributor is responsible for creating insightful and relevant blog posts for the MN AMA blog. Blogs typically range from 300-700 words and can focus on any marketing or business related content. This position is a great way to share content with members, elevate your presence as a marketing expert and hone your social media and blogging expertise. Commitment expectations for this position can vary from bi-annually to bi-monthly depending on your availability. This is a perfect position for those who are interested in starting a volunteer position with the MN AMA!

Membership Welcome Committee Volunteer
Help to welcome our new members by making phone calls and introducing yourself.  This position is a great way to meet other members and expand your network.  A script is provided that outlines topics to discuss and common questions that may be asked.  This position requires approximately 5 hours/ month.

Retention Membership Volunteer
Help us to remind our members that their membership is about to lapse by making phone calls and introducing yourself.  This position is a great way to meet other members and expand your network.  A script is provided that outlines topics to discuss and common questions that may be asked.  This position requires approximately 5 hours/ month.

Programming Committee

Digital Series Programming Manager
Reach out to speakers, and shape this popular and well-attended series of events for the 2011-2012 year. Plan topics and identify appropriate event location. Work with the VP and AVP of Sponsorship to seek appropriate venue and cash/in-kind sponsorship. Work with other talented programming committee members to manage planned Digital Series events. Ideal candidate is passionate about digital marketing and trends, and is eager to reach out to local experts to shape 2 – 3 events for the upcoming year.

Programming Event Manager
Help develop and manage brilliant monthly events for the MN AMA Chapter. You’ll develop your event and people skills by working with a creative, active programming committee team to ideate event and speaker opportunities, manage monthly events, and shape the content of monthly programming. This position requires attendance at monthly committee meetings (½ in-person, ½ via conference calls) and management of a minimum of 2 events annually. Attention-to-detail, ability to work with others and strong interpersonal skills to interface with experienced metro-area leaders and speakers are a plus.

Sponsorship Committee

Committee Member
A sponsorship committee member will identify and pursue both in-kind and cash sponsors. This assistance includes developing a list and pursuing organizations that might be interested in sponsorship, following up on leads for organizations that have identified themselves as interested in sponsorship, preparing sponsorship contracts and working with the sponsorship liaison to ensure that sponsors receive all benefits of sponsorship. This position requires approximately 4-5 hours per month plus attendance at the monthly meeting. Two to three positions are available.

Sponsorship Committee meets monthly, rotating between in-person and phone meetings. In-person meetings are the last Monday of the month, and will begin July 26 2010 at 6:00 p.m. for approximately 1-1.5 hours and typically meet at Midtown Global Market in South Minneapolis. Phone meetings will begin On Monday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. via conference call, and will be bi-monthly thereafter.

Sponsorship Representative
The Sponsorship committee is seeking volunteers who are comfortable developing and maintaining relationships between sponsors and the association. MN AMA sponsors support membership mixers, educational programming, and promotional activities for the MN AMA. Committee members should have development experience or sales experience and be motivated to build relationships and monitor the contract process. Other responsibilities will include obtaining sponsorships and prizes for the association, assembling sponsor information packages, ensuring sponsors receive recognition at all events and all association publications, ensuring sponsor receives letter of acknowledgment upon receipt of donations and reporting on status of sponsorships to general membership meeting each month.
